我想问下,有stat program的学校,每一个学校是否有明确的类型,偏重于理论的还是应用的,或者两者兼有之?

.
【1】The Stony Brook
Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics has a program of graduate training and research in Statistics, offering M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Unlike most other graduate programs in statistics, the emphasis is on applied statistics, with theory kept to a minimum.
【2】NCSU
The Department provides a dynamic environment for teaching, core research and collaborative research across disciplines, with formal programs in genetic, environmental, and industrial statistics, as well as biostatistics, bioinformatics, and biomathematics. It also has strong programs in statistics education, mathematical statistics, and work in a wide range of applications.
【3】Yale
We have active research programs in statistical information theory, statistical genetics and bioinformatics, bayesian methods, statistical computing, graphical methods, model selection, asymptotics, and other topics. Our faculty and students are also active in collaborative research with other departments throughout the university, including computer science, biological sciences, social sciences, physical sciences, engineering, bioinformatics, economics and applied mathematics.
规模比较小,个人感觉偏理论一点。
JOYCE美女:i visited Yale stats this spring. and it is a really small dept indeed. i think they are good at machine learning and stat information theory ~~~ i had lunch with professor barron and he holds strong interests for the joined field of stat and engineering. if you like stat with more engineering stuff, that would be a nice place for you.--
【4】CMU
Founded in 1966, Carnegie Mellon's Department of Statistics evolved separately from the traditional umbrella of Mathematical Sciences in a University environment that emphasized computation, the understanding of human behavior and decision-making, and cross-disciplinary research. This led the Department to define a path for itself by focusing on computational statistics, Bayesian statistics, and cross-disciplinary statistical research at a time when none of these was recognized as centrally important for a growing department. As all three areas became fundamental to statistics, our department assumed increasing leadership in the field. Today, our theoretical approaches are eclectic, and our graduates remain in demand for jobs in academia, government, and industry.
