TA positions (Ph.D. Level) in CivilEngineering available at The University of Akron

Two graduate research assistantships starting from 2014 Spring,are available in Prof. Julian Tao’sgroup at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Akron (http://gozips.uakron.edu/~jtao2/).

Research areas:

Dr. Tao’s group focuses on interdisciplinarystudies to address emerging civil/geotechnicalengineering challenges, including:

Smart infrastructure system (innovativesensing technology and its applications in Civil engineering);

Sustainable infrastructure materials (greenmaterials; geo-polymers; and etc.);

Energy infrastructures(Energy piles, Wind turbines, Carbon Sequestration and etc.).

Financial Aid:

Tuition;

Stipend of$18,000/year up to four years for applicants with a Master Degree;

Stipend mayincrease depending on the academic performance and outcome of the studentduring the Ph.D. study.

Please also be advised that the cost of living in Akron areais relatively low.

Requirements:

1)     Open minded and highly self-motivated;

2)     Have a keen interest in research, especiallyinterdisciplinary research;

3)     Have a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in CivilEngineering (Master’s degree preferred);

4)     Background in geotechnical engineering,electrical engineering, computational modeling, non-destructive testing, signalprocessing, or other interdisciplinary studies is a plus;

5)     TOFEL and GRE scores are ready or can beobtained no later than December 2013;
