如何跟manager进行关于career goal的对话？

一个称职的manager应该给新入职的员工定 30-60-90 days' plan.你可以问问manager你是否达到了他的预期（expectations）。如果他没有定任何plan with you，since you are fresh out of school, you can just say you plan to learn and gain more domain knowledge, so in the future, you can work on projects independently.  You can also ask your manager how he can help you with your goal.  For example, is it possible to assign a senior engineer to mentor you, or what other resources your manager can provide to help you reach your goal.

On the other hand, since you are new to the company, you should show your interests in learning the domain knowledge.  For example, asking questions if you don't understand something.

A more systematical way is to discuss your career with your manager as following:
short term (6 months to 1 year): learn domain knowledge and understand the architecture of the systems the team owns.  How to measure: can finish projects/tasks with minimal supervision or independently.
mid term (1 year to 3 years): Become a key contributor to the team.  How to measure: can lead the fairly complex projects (starting from gathering requirements and system analysis to deployment and maintenance)
long term (3 to 5 years): stay IC track to become a SME or management track.

Then ask your manager how he thinks.  If he agrees, what help/resources he can provide, and how you can achieve you goals
