第二点,清晰的需求。无论是要教授的推荐信,networking一个陌生人等等,最重要的是要清晰表达自己的需求和别人怎么能够帮到你,这个放在前面,然后再讲自己的能力和相关的经验来证明自己是worthy of your help. 大段的彩虹屁大可不必,我觉得一两句表达你的兴趣和这个人的职业有关联即可。试想我们收到一封陌生人的邮件,第一件事就是想知道,what does this person want and why does it concern me? 所以一定要把你具体要求别人帮忙的形式(mock,看简历,求connect,十分钟电话)写清楚。
第三点,先把logistics settled,让他们做选择题 从ABC时间里选,而不是让他们自己propose一个时间。经常发着回着几个回合丢失在了正在settle哪天几点什么方式打电话这种细节…一个月后繁忙的Director终于想起你了(或者没想起)是非常正常的…所以在第二封(甚至第一封)就提供自己的availability和沟通的方式和handle是非常明智的。虽然很多小伙伴们觉得第一封在assume别人愿意搭理你,好像很自恋,这也是为什么我80%选择第二封来写logistics,但是在一些比较aggressive的公司和人面前,这样做没什么不好,因为别人不愿意搭理我就不会搭理我(这也完全没关系!)不会跟我多写一句少写一句有关,毕竟在节省他们的时间。大多数的时候,在他们回邮件表示愿意的时候把自己的时间 列三个时间选择cover周中和周末。也不要说I’m available anytime显得你很闲或者很急,而且又变成了一个open ended questions我们要做的是选择题,因为我们要做的是节省他们的时间,把他们跟我们networking的流程最简单化,每次你让他们多做选择的时候回复的时间就会多加几天…因为大家用手机看邮件,如果是一键选择,很多人5分钟之内顺手回复了,如果看着很复杂,当然会拖延一段时间等到拿到电脑/想起来再弄。
Networking event或者打过电话的需要follow up
Note: 这个followup不一定要24小时之内,因为你正在networking的人们,他们也networking别人,很少有人有空把每一个人都及时followup他们都理解的,个人的经验来讲,follow up的质量绝对大于时间的要求,如果有一个人24小时之内跟我联系,除非只是加个LinkedIn,还加上了大段的个人描写,我只会记得这个人非常努力…反而是如果几个月以后有事情真的有我能帮忙的地方,例如mock interview例如有一个共有的联系人需要connect,只要写出清晰的需求我能怎么样的帮到你,无论我多久之前见过这个人,一定会尽力帮忙。. Waral dи,
