The University of New Hampshire has an opening for a Ph.D. student in the broad area of AI, infrastructure monitoring and geotechnical engineering for Fall 2021 or Spring 2022. Selected candidate will be fully supported with tuition and stipend. Research topics:1. Data-driven method in Civil Engineering
2. Infrastructure health monitoring
3. Numerical modeling of geotechnical applications (slope, foundation, retaining structures...)
4. Computer vision/DIC


Preferred qualifications (one or more):
1. Machine learning/computer vision
2. Programing skills (Python/C++/Matlab/javascript/...)
3. Experience with instrumentation and DAQ configuration
4. Experience in numerical modeling (FEM/MPM/Abaqus/Plaxis/...)
5. Understanding of soil constitutive models
6. Eagerness and ability to learn new knowledge and skills


The PhD student will be working with Dr. Fei Han to conduct research in the abovementioned area. Dr. Fei Han will be joining the University of New Hampshire in Fall 2021 as an Assistant Professor
in Civil Engineering. Dr. Han received his M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree in 2013 and 2017 in geotechnical engineering from Purdue University, where he continued to work as a postdoctoral
researcher after graduation. He has actively worked on areas of foundation engineering, numerical modeling, infrastructure health monitoring, and application of AI in civil engineering, producing publications in leading journals in the field.
