Ph.D. openings in the Area of Electric Machines and Drives at the University of Florida

There are two Ph.D. openings in Fall 2022 in Dr. Baoyun Ge's group working on electric drive systems with a focus on carbon footprint reduction and sustainability. Prospective students are expected to be self-motivated and have a background in electric machines, power electronics, and drives. Successful candidates will receive full financial support including tuition, stipend, and other benefits. Dr. Ge is joining the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida in Fall 2022 as a tenure-track assistant professor. He received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, in 2012, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI, in 2018. He is currently with C-Motive Technologies, Inc., Madison, a startup company developing capacitively coupled electromechanical power conversion technologies. His research interests lie in electric drive systems, including the application of artificial intelligence, IoT, parallel computing, and advanced manufacturing to reduce the carbon footprint of electric machines and drives throughout their lifetime. Dr. Ge received the First Place Paper Award and the Third Place Thesis Award from the IEEE Industry Application Society (IAS) in 2017 and 2019, respectively. His work is also recognized by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UW-Madison with the Harold A. Peterson Distinguished Dissertation Award. Dr. Ge served as guest associate editor for IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, and invited topic chair for IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition in 2020. The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department is a vibrant, multidisciplinary, and highly collaborative environment. ECE is home to the world renowned atmospheric electricity research facility ICLRT and leads several university-wide multidisciplinary institutes related to electronics including the Warren B. Nelms Institute of the Connected World, the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity (FICS) Research, and the Multi-functional Integrated System Technology (MIST) Center.
