Chen’s research group at the Mechanical Engineering Department, UNC Charlotte currently has openings forPh.D. students. Dr. Chen’s research group is interested in (1) understanding the deformation and failure mechanisms ofadvanced alloys, such as high-entropy alloys; (2) developing advanced nanomechanical testing methods forproperty measurement at small scale, such as nanoindentation or in situ microscale/nanoscale testing inelectron microscope; (3) additive manufacturing of ceramics or metallic composites..
The Ph.D. candidates should have or will obtain their Bachelor/Master's degrees in Materials Science,Mechanical Engineering, or Physics. Prior experience with experiments (e.g., SEM, TEM, Nanoindentation,FIB) or modeling/simulation (e.g., FEM and atomistic simulation) is highly valued but not essential. The earlieststarting date is Spring 2023. Due to the COVID, GRE might be waivered under certain conditions.
Please send your application, consisting of your CV, list of publications, and transcript of grades toDr. Youxing Chen at ychen103@uncc.edu.
