The Functional Materials and Devices Laboratory at the University of Central Florida (UCF) has two Ph.D. positions available in Fall 2023. The Ph.D. students will be fully funded through a Fellowship or Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA). The research focus of this lab is to develop nano/micro-sensors based on flexible and smart materials. Example research thrust areas include: (1) biomimetic devices for physiological interfacing; (2) wearable electronics for biosensing and drug delivery; (3) embedded sensors for structural health monitoring; and (4) biosensors for agricultural and environmental monitoring. For more information about the Functional Materials and Devices Laboratory, please visit: https://mae.ucf.edu/FMDL/.
An ideal candidate is expected to have an earned B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a closely related field. Previous experience in nanotechnology, NEMS/MEMS fabrication, experimental and computational structural mechanics, wireless sensors and wearable electronics are preferred but not required.
Interested individuals should first send an email to Dr. Wen Shen at Wen.Shen@ucf.edu with the subject line "Ph.D. Application" along with a CV/resume. Review of applications will start immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
