Data Mining/Machine Learning PhD Positions@Penn State

Multiple funded Research/Teaching Assistant positions (Fall 2023) are available in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at Penn State University. The research work in the IST college focuses on applications of data mining and machine learning techniques. Candidates will work with Dr. Fenglong Ma toward Ph.D. degrees.
Dr. Fenglong Ma's research interests broadly are data mining and machine learning, including healthcare data mining, deep learning, natural language processing, crowdsourcing, and security. He had published more than 80 papers in top-tier venues, including KDD, WWW, ACL, AAAI, IJCAI, ICDM, CIKM, WSDM, SDM, and TKDE. The students will work on the following Research Topics:
(1) Healthcare data mining with machine learning techniques;
(2) Multi-modality learning (DM/ML+NLP+CV);
(3) Medical/Clinical natural language processing;
(4) Federated learning;
(5) AI security.

Requirements:
(1) Undergraduate or MS students with degrees in Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics or related majors.
(2) Strong programming and/or mathematical skills.
(3) Candidates with high-quality publications in data mining, machine learning, NLP, and CV are preferred.
(4) Proficiency in English reading and writing (through TOEFL/IELTS scores), and the minimum score of TOEFL Speaking is 19.
(5) Strong motivation and passion for conducting research and solving challenging problems.
