Computational Mathematics researcher/research intern

The Computational Mathematics Group of Theory Laboratory, Central Research Institute, Huawei 2012 Laboratory, is responsible for research in computational mathematics and applied mathematics. It strives to track the latest achievements in academia, to develop new algorithms and theories in computational mathematics, and to solve the engineering problems with these new advancements.

Responsibilities:

1. R&D of new algorithms in computational mathematics, including but not limited to:

a)       Matrix/tensor computation algorithms, such as randomized algorithms for matrix/tensor decomposition, mixed-precision algorithms, and the solutions to ultra-large-scale linear equations;

b)       Mathematical modeling, such as multiscale modeling and model reduction for complex physical models, data-driven modeling and physical modeling for engineering problems;

c)       Simulation and numerical PDEs, such as FEM/FVM/PINNs for simulating manufacturing processes, electromagnetics simulation, rarefied gas simulation, and low temperature plasma simulation;

d)       Derivative-free optimization algorithms, such as zero-th order algorithms for engineering problems, learning to optimization algorithms, and scheduling algorithms.

2. Survey, evaluate and innovate the algorithms aspect of computational mathematics.

3. Modeling/abstraction/translation of the practical engineering problem with excellent understating in the preceding directions.

Qualifications:

       Ph.D. or Ph.D. candidates in mathematics, physics, data science, computer science, or related fields;
       Excellent knowledge of at least one direction of numerical methods, data analysis, mathematical modeling, and derivative-free optimization;
       Good coding skills in C/C++/Python/Julia/R;
       Good writing and oral communication skills, fluent in English.
