This is an announcement about a vacant PhD Research/Teaching Assistant position in RPI, Troy, NY in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the field of Concrete computational mechanics. The research involves: - Concrete constitutive modeling ( Continuum and Discrete ) at multiple length scales starting from micro-scale.
- Modeling of Aging and deterioration phenomena including, Freeze and thaw, Alkali-Silica Reaction, Creep, Shrinkage, Acid Attack, Corrosion, etc.
- Multiscaling techniques.
- Neural network applications including parameter identification and constitutive modeling. Preferred Qualifications: - M.Sc. in related fields
- knowledge about continuum mechanics, fracture mechanics( especially quasi-brittle materials), nonlinear finite element analysis
- C++ programming Support and duration: PhD is expected to take 3 years with a possible extension for a fourth year depending on student progress and funding availability. Support will be in the form of TA for up to 2 years in addition to 1 to 2 years of RA. All summers are fully supported. The first year is always on RA then the remaining years are to be mutually agreed on with the student. Starting Term: Summer or Fall 2015 Application deadline: Jan 1st 2015
