绝境求助: 美本暑期在校full-time搞科研是否违反F1学生工作规定? 是否需SSN to apply?

学校有个暑期科研项目，只招20个学生，做major-related research, 9星期 on campus，每星期工作40小时，提供住房+$2000 stipend. 首先，这个违反不违反 F1 student on-campus work authorization 的规定呢？ 是否需要 OPT/CPT？
然后是一个很草泥马的问题：

这个项目要求要有 social security number 才可以eligible. 由于俺还从来没有工作过，没有 SSN，但是我如果申到这个项目的话，学校可以很随意地出一张 on campus employment offer letter, 俺拿去 ISSO 盖盖章，去 social security office 跑一趟手续，SSN不就拿到了吗？   这是个 鸡生蛋 蛋生鸡的 坑爹问题。。。   人家google microsoft FB 都只问 "are you legally authorized to work in the United States", 哪有人问 " do you have a social?" 的？？！！  （有人能解释一下这是为什么吗？是因为SSN申请的手续麻烦出的慢吗？）


俺们学校有nondiscrimination policy, 所以我想干脆先 apply （4月1号application就截止了）, 如果他们说我没ssn，说我application无效, 我就跟他们argue that I've been discriminated based on my national origin:

On-camps job 合法，不需要 CPT/OPT。

full-time on-campus when school is not in session (暑假) 应该是没问题的吧？？

2. ssn的问题，应该就可以用这个postion来申请吧，是不是有误解？如果就是不行的话那就挺无语的。。

最后，这个stipend的确有点低。。

http://www.ice.gov/sevis/employment 上的 FAQ 说：
There are two types of limits on the employment:
1. Type and location
2. Jobs that do not displace a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (LPR)

俺校的科研项目只收20人，意思是不是说录了我别人citizen/PR就被displaced 掉了？  可话又说回来，你干什么job on campus 不都是要 displace citizens/PRs 的吗？ 你张三去刷盘子，Michael 不就没盘子刷了？

不违反规定，倒也不算歧视，national origin不是nationality。。不过学校处理ssn这个事情很傻逼。。话说一般这种机会都是优先给美国人。。即使你比他们都优秀很多。。

$2000/40/63=$5.56 per hour, 比minimum wage 还要低; 就算加上房租，也和俺州的 minimum wage基本打平。就这样也有美国人跟俺抢

不过真的就没有希望了吗？俺明白national origin不是nationality，更不是citizenship，但是俺还是想最起码跟他们扯一扯争取一下。。明摆着 unfair 的嚒

stipend 低很正常
我的 stipend 半年来都是0（wtf）

我觉得你可以直接咨询本校international student service, 问是否 OK ——一般这样的叫做 SURF (Summer Undergrad Research XXX?) 还是什么鬼的，都是 OK 的。

只要被要，都不是问题的——SSN 一般是有工作才办，有 SSN 不会对找工作有帮助（来源请求？）——至少我找工作的经验而言没有人一开始就问我 SSN
