给大家安利一个好项目，USCB的Master of Technology Management，适合转专业

大家好，最近受UCSB MTM项目Associate Director之邀，向广大地里的同学们宣传一下Master of Technology Management这个比较小众的好项目。如果对想转码农、科技相关又很想在硅谷附近的同学，很适合。17年申请最后一轮截至日期是6月1号，还有奖学金的slots。官网：https://www.tmp.ucsb.edu/mtm/

我先简单介绍一下自己。我17年秋即将入学UC Berkeley信息系统研究生项目，本科是经济/阿拉伯语双学位。在申请过程中也关注到UCSB的MTM，和program director一直有邮件往来。因为我自己比较想去加州，对加州还不错学校、对转专业友好的项目都作了很多的研究。如果不去UCB的话，很可能会去MTM这个项目。

首先抄一下官网对这个项目的概括：

Our 9-month intensive program is designed to teach you the frameworks, skills, and techniques you need to be a successful technology and product manager. No fluff, no filler.

Students focus on the challenges that are regularly encountered by managers and business leaders and the practices they employ as they work to build technology-based products and services that match (or create) market needs.

项目关键信息：

时长： 9个月  （早毕业就是好，楼主要迟一年才能出来挣钱）

位置：University of California, Santa Barbara                  气候好，海边。 Santa Barbara的地位位置大家肯定都知道，离洛杉矶近，当然去硅谷面试也很方便。

项目规模：25-35人

是否STEM：  是的

学费：$59,590  （有奖学金机会）

申请人背景：科技，经济，商科，社会等等     可以说对任何背景的优秀学生都敞开大门

就业情况：据Director介绍，去年80%+的学生在毕业三个月内找到工作。薪酬中位数为$120k

下面是Director强调让我向大家宣传的几个特点：

在我对项目的研究，向前人的询问和同director沟通的过程中，可以很明显的体会到这个项目最大的特点就是和业界联系非常紧密。从老师们（大多数是科技公司的高层，做学院的客座教授）到mentor（每个人都会有业界mentor）到平时的项目（会邀请业界人士参与评估），给学生们很多机会跟业界的技术大牛、管理人员甚至是招聘官们互动，对于找工作来说这个是最重要的，让学生们经常有展现自己的时机。
另外，项目规模不大，所以director （Yosem，人非常nice，每封邮件都几日内回复，一个问题不漏）对每个学生都比较上心，都会一起设置合适的carriculum，帮着network，帮着推荐工作。


Director让我跟大家说项目现在收到了不少申请，但是真正满意的学生还没有填满位置，也欢迎优秀的同学们继续申请，6月1号是final ddl。奖学金还有位子。


我相信地里有很多转专业、想做科技的同学对加州的地理位置都非常看重。确实UCB，UCLA，UCSD这几年都太火了，跟科技相关的专业都不太好申。当然同学们要是有了这几所学校的offer，我觉得大家还是去这几所。
但UCSB在UC系统里算是中档的，教育质量有保证（看毕业年薪中位数就知道了）。所以对加州、对转专业感兴趣但手上暂时还没UC系offer的同学，或者是想上一个时间短一些项目的，都可以试一试这个很不错的项目。

给大家更新一下已经知道的信息，来源于和在读中国学生的交流。课程都是固定的不能选别的课你去旁听倒是可以，但是本身课程load就很大根本没什么时间去旁听，所以LZ说适合转专业走码是行不通的（对于大多数想转专业的）在读的基本都是些工科生。这个项目还是类似于MBA的形式，只不过technics方向的培训。所以LZ的信息有误

恩是这样的，UCSB不限制学分，必修课基本以技术管理还有管理科学为主，设计一定的统计、定量，必修课里面确实没有很硬很硬的技术课程。

但是必修课以外，同学们可以选修任意学分的项目外课程（因为MTM是设置在Engineering School下面的，所以CS系、其他工程系的课）都可以选。好像一学期不超过20.5学分就可以。

所以在UCSB选课不用拘泥于他课表里面提供的课，因为整个学院的课都是可以选的。这点和我要去的UCB很像。

我觉得一定要转码农的同学可以用这个项目做突破口，选修一些自己感兴趣的技术课程，然后靠着老师、学院的network直接去面技术岗位了（比任何项目自己投递都要有效）。

有同学给我发私信问问题，很惭愧我级别不够，连回复的资格都没有，所以只能在这里总结一下了。下文是Associate Director给我亲自回复的：

1.It's 9 months, 3 semesters with an embedded internship. Can you introduce a bit when is the internship happening?
The internship takes place during the winter quarter. We place a team of UCSB MTM students at a high-tech firm working with senior executives on a problem that firm is facing. The students have 10-20 weeks in which to come up with a solution. Many of our students end up turning these internships into full-time offers of employment.

2.Do we have to deliver the TOEFL, GRE scores during application, or only after we get the offer?
When a prospective student applies to UCSB MTM, the applicant is asked to enter the scores manually at the time of application. The applicant is also asked to contact the testing services to send the scores officially to UCSB via postal service.

3. Some applicants want you to screen their profile. Is it okay if I ask for their CV and send you for initial screening?
Definitely. Please tell them to contact me directly at ycompanys@tmp.ucsb.edu, and I would be more than happy to screen their profile. Aside from screening their profile, I would enjoy advising them further about graduate studies and career development. We also have a Career Services Manager specific to MTM with whom I could connect them so they could get further advice.

不客气。

基本都在硅谷的公司工作。一部分去做了SDE，其他的从事Product Manager, Associate Product Manager, Senior Systems Engineer, Technical Marketing Manager, Associate Design Engineer, Business Analyst, Customer Success Engineer这些工作。

所以就业比较灵活，基本上想纯做技术也可以，想做技术/商业的交叉也可以。

信息补充拉，大家最关心的就业率和课程选择，director真是速度快：

1.这个项目今年是第三届。第一届就业率100%，第二届现在还没毕业，正在找工作阶段。全部是科技公司的职位。有SDE，有Product Manager，有BA，也有consultant。

2.国际生比率在50%左右。

3.这个项目最大的特点忘了提，9个月中间是有embedded internship with a tech company.这个真心赞，解决了大多数项目时间短无法实习的毛病。项目老师好多都是业界的，老爷子人脉广。

4.上课：周一到周四早上必修课，周五全天team projects, 其他时间可以选各种选修课，无限制。系里鼓励大家按照兴趣、特长选择计算机、自然科学和工程等课程，polish technical skills.

5. 鼓励应届生不要害怕，尽管申请，原文如下：
We consider all students equally, whether they have work experience or not. In our experience, students who are straight out of a bachelor's degree often perform as well or better than students with work experience. Students with work experience have the disadvantage that they have to transition back to an academic environment.
