意料之外的offer，唯一申请的biostat

昨天收到director的邮件，今天收到的正式offer。

本科完全没有学习，混了个数学文凭就出来了。出来读数学master目的是重新学好数学，其实申请的时候数学也不咋样。想留美找份工作就ok的，混申了近20所，MS/phd，统计，生统，金工，MIS。本来一心想转MIS的，Vandy的offer砸过来，没有理由不去了。

Vandy的项目很新，在医学院下，每年只招4个MS和4个PHD。MS全部有80％的学费减免。

Offer信中有这样一段话：

“You may have other offers to consider, so I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that our program is one of a kind; our program is a contemporary, methodological-based and intellectually challenging graduate program in Biostatistics. I, and other faculty, would be happy to answer any question that may rise as you consider offers from other schools and consider your options. I have no doubt that Vanderbilt’s Biostatistics program will soon be one of the best in the country.”

我也相信，Vandy的Biostat一定会上升得很快，希望自己也能为其做一分贡献，PHD基本也会在那里读了。总结一下，自己能申请到可能还是因为数学背景，无论本科GPA有多差，数学的Master可以弥补。

记得去年找warald咨询的时候，他的回复是：“你的背景太特殊了，我还从来不知道你这样的背景申请统计或者生统的。我猜测你还是有希望拿到top50的admission，但是我不建议你只申请top50。” 我的案例算是给W大又一个特殊案例吧。

给大家一句建议，无论你自己觉得自己有多差，总会有人把你当宝，一定要有信心。

最后预测一下，未来数学专业可能成为中国最热门的专业之一吧。想出国，学数学一定没错。
