遇到模板回复怎么办？

给一个教授发信，回复：Thanks for you interest in my group.  It is likely, though not guaranteed that I will have spots in my group opening up next fall.  I would suggest going ahead and applying to our department - by the time admissions decisions are made in the spring, I should have a more concrete idea of my fall openings.

这是不是就是完全没希望了，不可能进行下去了的意思？

我怎么感觉就是模板回复？这样的对话不能再进行下去了吧？这种情况下我能不能再去给同一个系的另一个教授写信？
