紧急求助，关于是否接收这个offer

刚接到University of Massachusetts--Amherst的e-mail,节选下上面的话：

We just received notification from the International Student Tuition Waiver Awards and you have been granted a tuition waiver award for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011.


Please note that the Tuition Waiver covers Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 (approx. $8,400).  


This offer is conditional on our receiving your response by [b]Monday, April 12th,[/b] 2010.  If we do not receive your reply on or before that date, this Tuition Waiver offer will be considered withdrawn.


8400$/year的小奖，我不知我是不是应该从了，而且e-mail写得很push...


我现在还在等3个学校的phd录取结果，不知会不会有更好的奖。（不过觉得希望也不是很大）。


大家觉得我如果先跟这个学校说我从了这个奖，之后再收到更好的offer再反悔是不是肯定不成啊？（我指的e-mail也具有法律左右，在法律的范围内，我不能这么做？）


求大牛人，最好是去年申过的同学帮我出下主意，万分感谢！！！

说实话，就算先应了然后又不去了，其实也不要紧。我也收到类似的小奖，贴给你看看：I need to know by April 14 if you plan to accept this Scholarship and
attend the University of Kentucky.  If you secure other funding here,
either an RA or TA position, you would then give up the Gillis
Scholarship.  Because of the way the Graduate School operates, once I
have nominated a student, I have "used up" the Scholarship, and I can't
nominate anybody else.  That's why I need a fairly firm commitment from
you.  However, even if you say "yes", you are not bound by that
statement; there is no penalty (except to us!) if you later choose not
to register here.

恩，谢谢。不过貌似你说的是在一所学校之内申不同的奖的事，我说的是在不同学校之间选择奖的情况。而且，4.15协议也确实具有法律效益吧。

下面帖出详细的4.15协议以及分析：

四·一五协议英文名称为"Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees, and Assistants"，是在一九九九年的招生录取过程中正式实施的，它是由多数美国大学联合制定、用于约束某个申请人同时接受多个学校录取但在开学前很短的时间内才通知其中的一些学校无法按时就读情况的协约，毫无疑问申请人的这种作法会大大地影响学校的正常招生与教学秩序，并损害本国后来申请者的形象。 "四·一五"协议的主要内容是在每年的四月十五日之前，申请者可以在已被录取的学校中任意选择，或干脆不对学校的录取通知做出最后的答复，在这期间申请者任何的接受学校录取的承诺或保持的缄默都不承担任何责任；但明确答复接受何所大学的录取的时间应当不超过四月十五日，并应当尽可能早地提先通知各个学校自己的决定、留足时间将已经收到但决定拒绝的学校的各类录取资料，包括I-20表格，在四月十五日之前寄回（当然，材料可能不一定必要在四月十五日之前到达被拒学校，但电子邮件通知一定在事先进行）。如果在这之后反悔，受损害的学校有权请求所有签署该协议的其它大学拒绝该生，从而将破坏协议的申请人排除在协议缔结的学校联盟之外。应该说"四·一五"协议的实施对学校与申请人双方都是有利的，对学校而言避免了因被录取人突然反悔造成的混乱，对多数申请人而言这意味着更加平等的竞争及比以前更大的录取机会，因为只有在学校明确获悉被录取者的拒绝答复后才会将该入学机会提供给下一个合格的申请者。协议的原文内容如下：

In that context, the conditions affecting such offers and their acceptance must be defined carefully and understood by all parties. Students are under no obligation to respond to offers of financial support prior to April 15; earlier deadlines for acceptance of such offers violate the intent of this Resolution. In those instances in which a student accepts an offer before April 15, and subsequently desires to withdraw that acceptance, the student may submit in writing a resignation of the appointment at any time through April 15. However, an acceptance given or left in force after April 15 commits the student not to accept another offer without first obtaining a written release from the institution to which a commitment has been made. Similarly, an offer by an institution after April 15 is conditional on presentation by the student of the written release from any previously accepted offer. 看一看中文解释： 1．4月15之前，你没有回答时候接受offer的必要，但如果学校强迫你很早回答，一定要据理力争！ 2．在4月15日之前接受的offer，你可以在任何时间拒绝，包括4月15号之后！拒绝信要白纸黑字。我认为原文说得是4.15前接受的offer，你可以在4.15之前任何时间写书面据信拒绝而不违反4.15协议，但是4.15之后接受的offer或者4.15之后依然有效的已接受offer（即4.15前接受的offer并没有拒绝），想要拒绝，均需要有学校书面的同意。 3．在4月15日之后接受的offer，如果想再接受别的offer，必须要有原学校纸质的同意放弃offer书。 4 加拿大，英国等非美国学校，和不在415协议内的美国学校，不受415协议的限制。 5 415协议是有关财政资助（即提供奖学金资助）的协议，单纯的admission不受限制。

这种无所谓。接受了再反悔，学校无非是另找一个学生给。跟全奖不一样。

你如果觉得这个offer拿不到也不心疼，可以跟对方提４／１５
