Seeking Visiting Research Scholars and Ph.D. students:. 1point 3acres
University of Kansas (KU) is one of the oldest universities in the United States. KU is classified by USNews as a tier 1 university and is classified by Carnegie Foundation as RU/VH (research university with very high research activity). The university is also one of 63 members of the Association of American Universities. University of Kansas provides a great environment for students in Electrical Engineering. It has a strong academic program and very interesting research. In particular, there are many fascinating topics explored in Information and Telecommunication Technology Center (ITTC). The EE/CE/CS programs at KU constantly ranks between 60-80 in USNews.
. Waral dи,
Wireless technology offers a unique mixture of connectivity, flexibility, and freedom. It plays an important role in bridging the gap between mobile devices and established communication infrastructures. Radio spectrum is one of the most value assets in the world (e.g., in 2008 Verizon spent around 10 billion dollars for 12 MHz spectrum, in June 2011 Nortel's wireless IPR was sold for 4.5 billion dollars and in August 2011, Google acquired Motorola Mobility for about 12.5 billion). On the other hand, Cisco projected that the traffic for mobile wireless communications will almost double every year from the year 2011 to the year 2016, furthermore, around 70% of the traffic will be video. This suggests that future mobile wireless communication systems and networks will face the dual challenge of supporting large traffic volume and providing reliable service. All these pose outstanding and fundamental challenges for wireless communications.

To address these, Dr. Lingjia Liu at EECS of KU is seeking self-motivated Visiting Research Scholars and Ph.D. students who are willing to help him identify answers to the outstanding challenges. Dr. Liu is hoping that he could help his research partners to achieve their career goals with his expertise and experience in wireless communications. Meanwhile, he also hopes his research partners could help him improve his research program.
For Fall 2013, Dr. Liu’s has two openings for graduate research assistants:
1. Video over wireless
2. Energy-efficient design for wireless systems
