Computational Biomedicine Lab (CBL) at University of Houston has several Ph.D. student positions open starting in the Fall 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Ioannis A. Kakadiaris. The goal of CBL is to change the way that computers look at people. In pursuit of this goal, we are focusing on research and development to advance the fundamentals in the fields of biometric, computer vision, deep learning, and machine learning. We want to recruit students who are highly motivated in making a difference in these domains. The specific research topics and applications are attached. In the area of face recognition CBL has focused on 2D/3D face recognition for more than ten years. Our team has made contributions in the areas of 3D face (and ear) recognition, 3D-aided 2D Face Recognition, 2D-2D Face Recognition, and profile-based face recognition. Currently, CBL researchers are addressing critical challenges including low-resolution data, indoor/outdoor illumination, accurate landmark and pose estimation, cross-resolution matching, and score normalization. In the area of health CBL researchers have developed algorithms to predict who is going to have a heart attack in the next 12 months and numerous algorithms to analyze medical images. CBL provides students with access to world-class computational resources and ample opportunities of contributing to the research and engineering communities. CBL alumni have become founders/researchers/engineers at the most prestigious companies in the industry such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Apple, Facebook as well as major research centers such as the Baylor College of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and the University of Maryland.
