Graduate Assistantship Openings
Graduate assistantship is available for Ph.D. students in Dr. Zhao’s research group at UNC Charlotte in Spring and Fall 2019. Highly qualified and motivated students who are interested in power electronics, power distributions, microgrid, renewable energies and motor drives are all encouraged to apply.

If you are interested in applying for the Ph.D. positions, please email Dr. Tiefu Zhao your resume including educational background, major courses and grades, overall GPA, relevant research/working experience, relevant publications, GRE score, TOEFL score (for international applicants). Please use “Graduate Applicant – Your Name” as the email subject.

Dr. Tiefu Zhao is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNC Charlotte. He received his B.S. and M.S degrees from Tsinghua University, China and Ph.D. degree from North Carolina State University, USA. His doctoral research topic of Solid State Transformers (SST) was named world’s top 10 emerging technologies by MIT technology review 2011. He is the recipient of the prestigious 2015 IAS Andrew W. Smith Outstanding Young Member Award for his outstanding achievement and contribution to the profession. Dr. Zhao’s research interests include grid edge power electronics, solid state circuit protection, DC distribution, microgrid, renewable energy integration and wide bandgap device
