Summary Smart Ocean Systems (SOS) laboratory at the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island, is seeking a graduate student to work on unmanned marine platforms, i.e., AUVs and ASVs, underwater gliders. Our lab is focus on developing smart and intelligent ocean systems for oceanography researches. Qualifications and Skills - Possessing a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree from STEM majors, - Familiar with Linux operating system and programming languages such as Python, C++, - Familiar with engineering software, e.g., Solidworks, and analysis tools, e.g., MATLAB, - Demonstrated strong problem-solving capability, excellent communication skills, and scientific writing/reporting skills - Relevant experience on underwater vehicles and underwater gliders will be considered as an asset, - Relevant experience in oceanography will be considered as an asset, e.g., understanding fundamental oceanographic processes, Job Profile The candidate is expected to conduct research with an emphasis on navigation and autonomy development for marine robots. The successful candidate is expected to start in September 2019. Two-year stipend will be provided. Financial support extension beyond two years is subject to future grants.
