嗯，也是，可能是我biological的新闻看的比较多，所以印象比较深。我到觉得这些应用领域的统计技术其实都来自于Data Mining，只不过不同类型的数据有不同的特点，要做一下实例化而已，而Data Ming的基础实际上是三个： Machine Learning，Data base 以及 Statistic

而Data Mining能火的本质是，随着存储技术的发展，现在社会各行各业收集到的数据太多了，原则上来说，任何能够在大量数据上产生有趣结果的技术都会有很好的发展前景。

下面若干年，

最大众，机会最多的工作，还是计算机；
待遇最丰厚，职位最稳定的，还是统计；-- quant死了，也就轮到统计了。
增长势头最快的，现在大家都等着看renewable energy。。

Warald的这句话的意思是不是投行里那些原来玩概率模型的quant现在都转去搞统计了？

据我所知quant主要就是靠概率和微积分这两门课揉在一起叫“随机微积分”，然后搞建一些很复杂的概率模型去为金融衍生品定价，于是有很多物理学博士去搞，由于大家认为这次金融危机主要是由金融数学模型引起的，所以在美国quant这个行业极度衰退？

还有，现在说的搞统计，是不是主要指，biological statistic和data mining这两个方向？

大致查了查，发现IBM招的外国statistician好像不多的样子。Google招的就多太多了，工资看起来也要高一点。当然CA生活费用比NC也高很多。看来fresh phd去google是个很好的就业方向了。
