我前面的15号就已经delivered了，我后面的今天刚被approved。。太难了，我现在可担心了，根本无心做别的。。各种找加急的办法

I'm really confused by the people freaking out about not getting their Jan/Feb cases processed. There's hundreds of people who've been waiting since all the way back to Oct/Nov (even after discounting the non-OPT applications). The USCIS website says normal wait time range is up to 5 months. My DSO told me that last summer the average waiting time was 4-6 months, and although processing time was coming down this winter, that we might expect to see long wait times again this summer. So I was told to be prepared for the possibility of waiting 5 months. (This was even before COVID). I've even warned my future employer that there's a chance I won't get my EAD for that long (although I'm of course hoping it'll be out in way less than that). Did you all not get the same advice from your school??

Also, this obviously doesn't work in a first come first serve manner. Processing shifts as a skewed distribution. Every week, there's a "peak" date. The peak seems to shift every week by 3-4 days. If you're lucky and you get processed in that big chunk of peak processing, you'll get approved really quickly. But if the peak passes your day, your waiting time gets longer and longer, and from there it's unfortuantely a waiting game with a ton of uncertainty. As far as I can tell, whether you get caught within the peak window is all luck. I'm guessing they shift by distribution instead of doing first come because they can manipulate the mean/spread numbers, which they probably have to report somewhere... It's an inefficient, irrational, and annoying system but a common number fudging thing to do.

I also don't think any days are being processed less than others (even 2/19, although mayyybe). I'm guessing there's a minimum % of cases they have to process for each date, but once they've hit that % they can move on to other dates.

Anyway, sorry if that sounded aggressive, I just got kind of upset seeing what seems like a lot of misinformation. This is a terrible time and I hope you're all staying sane. I've been in the US visa system for 10+ years (second OPT) and have a data related PhD so I might also be able to answer more questions... also happy to hear if you think my observations are wrong!
