今天早上收到第一封陶瓷回信

Dear Mr. XXX,
Thank you for your interest in the University of Minnesota and specifically in the research group that I am founding in the Civil Engineering Department.

A tentative timeline for my search is as follows.
I will keep accepting applications for some time. Although I will start evaluating the candidate profiles as soon as I receive the applications, I will probably wait a few weeks before I start selecting some applicants for the next search phase. In the meanwhile, I might contact some of the references to obtain support letters.
At that point, I will contact the selected candidates to set up a phone or Skype conversation. The point of this is to get to know each other better, discuss some technical and non-technical aspects of the position a little more in details, and evaluate the communication skills of the candidates. Please keep in mind that I personally value the personal qualities and the social attitude of potential students as much as their technical skills and academic accolades.
Finally, based on the outcome of the phone conversations, I will make the final picks. I am anticipating the position to become available as early as as January 2011. Hopefully, the search process will happen in a relatively short time frame, so that a formal application to the University of Minnesota and the relative paperwork (including VISA paperwork for international student) can be submitted and processed in time to allow an official start in January. In the worst case scenario, an official start in the summer 2011 is also a viable option.
