Verily, Alphabet's life sciences unit, has raised $700 million in new funding to expand its business operations, including its clinical medical platform Baseline, which has been used for COVID-19 research.
This investment not only comes from Alphabet, but also from other investors outside of Google's parent company. Verily also stated that it will also use the funds to advance several of its life science projects, including surgery, pathology and immunology.
In March last year, the company launched the Project Baseline website for COVID-19 patients. Later in May, the company said it would start antibody research against the virus. In the summer, a clinical laboratory was opened in South San Francisco to create more laboratory capacity for COVID-19 testing. source
