in order to be a university faculty, you probably need a phd from a well-reputed university. it is rare for masters even to be a lecture. you can look at the faculty's resume from your schools math dept website or faculty's personal web page to get a sense of what is the expectation of a faculty member. It is much more harder than getting a job from the industry.

in order to be a phd, to show your research ability is far more important than merely having a straight A transcript. in fact, having good marks are prerequisites, not the proof of your research abilities.

if you wonder what the high level math class looks like, why not you just go ahead and sit in one of the classrooms? a real demonstration would be 1000 times more effective than other peoples' words

不知道lz说的当老师是什么意思。如果是teaching school，倒是对research要求不怎么高。
但是我想如果title是AP，那PHD还是必须的吧。
或者如果在公司工作，业余教书的，可以当adjunct AP

另外普通小学校是可以有MS当lecturer的

工作签证应该没有问题，H1b也不占普通的名额，容易办。但是如果不做research，EB1弄绿卡估计是没戏。但是学校的工作一般稳定啊，慢慢等EB2还是可以的。

lz对teaching很有兴趣的话，读书的时候先留意TA工作，然后留意part time lecturer/instructor工作。
工作以后part time教书的机会其实也不算少，甚至还有远程教书的。
我念书的时候都有过这样的机会自己找上门（可惜没有珍惜），尤其边缘学科，经常需要开新课的，面对小白们来求科普的，PHD学生去讲足够了
teaching college工资可能巨低无比，如果无所谓的话，生活应该是不错的，想走这条路的，最终应该还都可以找到位置。

一辈子的事，兴趣还是很重要的。这点上支持lz追求理想。虽然从找工作难度，工资等方面来说，MS in CS其实很好了。Math PHD上花街当然也很好。MS in Math就不太清楚可以做什么。
