1)GaTech的assistant prof回复:thank you very much for your email and interest! I am interested in you and your background but i don't have currently a funded position for another PhD student. If there is a fellowship program you could apply for to support your PhD studies, i am very interested in talking to you about the possibility of serving as your host and advisor. 2)Stanford的dean回复:
Thank you for the note and interest in our graduate program. You have a truly impressive background and set of accomplishments. Your papers on shifts in microbial communities appear impressive, particularly that you completed them during your undergraduate work. To be clear, my research group focuses on biogeochemical processes and although we are interested in microbial communities, particularly what they do and where they do it, but community analysis is not our focus. I am hoping to be in a position to take a student next year but am unsure whether I will have room in my group. However, I would strongly encourage you to apply to our department. Applications are made on-line direction to our department which then reviews applications in January through a central committee. Acceptable applications are then provided to individual faculty for further review. 3)UW的老师: Thanks for your message. It seems that you have been quite involved in research during your undergraduate years. The way for you to proceed is to apply to one or more Ph.D. programs here at WU. I am not clear on exactly what background your undergraduate education provides, but it sounds like you would be a better fit for the programs within the Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (DBBS) than the Ph.D. in computer science. In the DBBS you have the option of multiple programs -- Computational and Systems Biology, Molecular Genetics and Genomics, and Plant and Microbial Sciences, among others. You should probably browse the web page to figure out which programs best fit your interests and qualifications. Then you simply apply! You might also consider the Ph.D. program in Biomedical Engineering, which his in the School of Engineering. I will not be involved in the selection process until the interview stage, but I can supervise students in any of these programs.
