Position Description:
Dr. Cathy Liu's research group currently has multiple openings for Ph.D. positions. Successful candidates will be hired as graduate research assistants to work on projects related to the electric vehicle, power and building infrastructure analysis, and multimodal transportation system modeling. Successful candidates should have strong motivation and curiosity to conduct research in civil infrastructure analytics and have background in at least one of the following areas: optimization, agent-based modeling, machine learning, and big data analytics & visualization. Biography of Dr. Cathy Liu:
Dr. Liu is an associate professor in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Utah. She has a Ph.D. in transportation engineering from the University of Washington. She serves as a member on the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Highway Capacity Quality of Service (HCQS) Committee and Chair of the technology transfer subcommittee, Managed Lane Committee, and the Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Committee (2016-2019). She also serves as a board member of the Utah Model Advisory Committee and served on Salt Lake City Transportation Advisory Board (from 2013-2016). Dr. Liu is a licensed professional engineer at the State of Utah. Dr. Liu's expertise includes traffic network modeling, big data applications in transportation, and emerging technology integration in transportation infrastructure. She has served as PI or Co-PI of sponsored research for the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), Strategic Highway Research Program 2 (SHRP 2), FHWA, Federal Transit Administration (FTA), among others.
