We are interested in bringing together specialized knowledge from various scientific and engineering disciplines and applying them to solve real-life issues. We are currently looking for eager students and volunteer trainees to assist in the development of point-of-care diagnostics for rapid detection of infectious diseases through quantification of target bioagents, including biomarkers, bacterial pathogens, and viruses in biological samples. The successful candidates will be intimately involved in every stage of the biosensing device development, including the design, prototyping, optimization and validation of the device. Candidates with prior research experience in RSV, HIV, and Ebola vaccines are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates should have:
- Strong passion towards translational medicine type of work
- Experience working in a laboratory setting
- Self-motivation with a strong drive to succeed and a strong desire to learn
- Strong desire to work in highly interdisciplinary projects that require working with team members
with broad experience/background in engineering, biology, chemistry, computer programing, and infectious diseases.
The ideal candidates will have:
- Background in biology and wet bench work
- Background in device design and development
- Background in point of care diagnostics
- Background in machine learning technologies
- Electronic circuit design and fabrication experience.
We believe that this could be a great opportunity to get involved in a unique laboratory environment and create technologies and sciences that will have high impact on people’s lives. We welcome students who are available for at least 8-month work terms and/or are willing to return for subsequent work terms.
Comments:
• Students can use the project work towards their final year undergraduation/postgraduation thesis.
• Depending on the contribution, a research trainee will have chance of getting an authorship in
high-impact journal articles.
