有人会经常被问来国外多少年了吗

那可能你比较没有aware到这个问题有多敏感吧。像如果你知道一个中国人就问你会不会功夫，会不会打乒乓球，看到日本人就去用日语问好，这些都是harassment范畴，都是training里的典型反面案例。职场上还是要注意一些，不过如果是不相关的人可能就无所谓了，毕竟不是人人都是受过教育的。

这个问题不能算歧视了吧？
are you local的隐含意义就是you may be local
而where are you from则意味着他们认为你肯定不是本地人

那些人是你朋友，大概率知道你没有恶意，甚至觉得你想理解他们挺好的。同事的话，最好不要以身份问题作为开场白。

我以前的美国老板这样跟我解释：一些人家很难改变、或者不能改变的特征，例如种族国籍等等，千万不要给人家感觉你在质疑他「为什么」有这些特征、或者他「应该有」他自己不认同的特征。言者无意，听者有心。

例如上面有几楼就提到，土生土长的 ABC 也会被问到 where are you from。因为肤色被（白） 人永远被假设是外国人，糟心
