请问关于哥大的ＭＳ申请ＧＰＡ转换问题

今天看了下哥大　ＭＳｉｎＣＳ　的要求，上面明确规定要把不是美国ＧＰＡ４．０制的成绩转换为４．０制，原文如下：

Ｑ：My course grades on my undergraduate transcript are based on a different scale from Columbia’s. What can I do?
Ａ：You must have your transcript converted to the GPA scale by an appropriate agency (GPA is on a 0-4 scale) before sending it to the SEAS Graduate Student Services. It is your responsibility to find an agency that can do this conversion for you.

请问这个要求是强制的吗？．．．．之前没看过这种要求的学校啊．．．．该怎么做．．．请大侠指点．．．
