The Human-Computer Interaction Research group in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at Penn State University invites applications for MS and PhD degrees.
Who we are
Our research in human-computer interaction focuses on creating and evaluating interactive systems. Acting as advocates for humans first and technology advocates second, we create advanced user interfaces and applications that incorporate mobile and collaborative technologies, interactive visualizations, and a wide range of interactions to improve the chance that new information technologies can be used and enjoyed by people for real purposes, regardless of their cognitive, motor, and sensory abilities. We do this by studying the technical, social, experiential, aesthetic, cognitive, and affective aspects of the user experience, as well as consequences for communities, organizations, and society. Specifically, we research topics and issues such as accessible computing, aesthetic computing, behavior change for health and wellness, collaborative learning environments, critical computing, designing for social impacts, experience design, entertainment computing and video games, feminist HCI, geo-deliberation and decision-making in local communities, peer-to-peer exchange systems, sustainability and environmental justice, user modeling, and women’s health.
