Share a recent experience Miami to Shanghai flying with Cathay Pacific

My parents came to the US on the Super Bowl Sunday of 2022 and went back on Feb. 22, 2023. I booked one-way tickets for them when they came (with Xiamen Airlines), and booked the return tickets in January 2023, with Cathay Pacific.

They did the NAAT COVID test in Walgreens. Negative results came in about 2 hours after samples taken. The tests were done 41 hours before their first flight from MIA, that is 46 hours before their New York JFK - Hong Kong flight.

Their itinerary is Miami, New York JFK, Hong Kong, Shanghai Pudong. The first flight was operated by American Airlines. In MIA, American staff asked for proofs of COVID test, emphasizing 48 hours. He then gave them all three boarding passes. In JFK, Cathay Pacific staff checked their COVID test results again before printing boarding passes for them (The American boarding passes were not respected.). The NAAT tests were not challenged at all.
