求助 H1b Transfer (cap-exempt) 新雇主在我grace period结束前无法保证处理完提交

帮朋友问：今年4月被前雇主雷（我是non-profit cap exempt不用抽签H1b，前雇主给我的I-797 approval时间6/2021-5/2024），5/13是最后的paycheck补发日期。按理说从5/13才开始我的60天Grace Period（但不是十分确定）。找到新老板（也是non-profit）通知这两天拟好正式 offer letter（预估start date 8/9月）。
问题是: 这边新学校国际部需要60-90天做H1b transfer processing (即使Premium processing), 所以估计在我grace period结束7/13号前估计可能处理不完paper work。
我也考虑过转旅游签B1/B2，但新雇主也不建议这么做，我搜了一些相关case，一旦提交转换B1/B2请求，移民局会等你的B1/B2有结果后才会批准新的H1B transfer，否则容易被RFE。大家也知道B1/B2处理时间大半年。
新雇主建议我grace period离境回趟国签H1b visa身份合法起见。由于实在不知道新雇主具体什么时候能完成准备工作然后向USCIS提交h1b的申请，盲猜继续呆在美国时间不够…本人也想借个机会6月回趟国。
求助大家/专业人员有没有类似情况建议，回国要是首签H1b要多少时间？是否需要等到新的I-797notice才能开始预约大使馆面签。还是用前雇主批的I-797 approval notice和新雇主的offer letter和附属材料进行面签。
