This is for all the folks who are considering FMLA after being on PIP. I see a lot of people with different questions, and this is the post you want to be checking out.
**Disclaimer** - this post will not help you trick the system and leverage FMLA for your personal goals. This post will help you understand the pros and cons of this process, and the procedure for application. Please read on - .--
**Situation** - You are feeling burnt out. You need a break, to focus on family, health, anything pressing. You can't seem to get ahead of work, you're not thinking fast enough, you're going crazy. You have a baby on the way, or someone in your family is going through something that they need you for - all you need is some time off.
**Task** - Check if your situation qualifies for FMLA. You should have been employed for 12 months at Amazon, and a few other requirements.
**Two ways to do that**
1. Check DLS website on inside amazon com
2. Call the DLS number on that website and ask.
If it does, find a doctor, PCP or therapist who can attest to it, and is ready to sign FMLA paperwork.
**Action**
1. Finalize your dates, inform your manager that you are interested in taking some time off. Feel free to share number of weeks, but it is not important to share the reason. Your manager is notified if you've applied for leave, and if it has been approved. No reasons are shared.
.. 2. Apply for FMLA on the DLS website. Once you get their email with a form, send that to your doctor. Check that form for any mistakes. Once you're good to go, submit that form on DLS, let your manager know you'll be out, create a plan for handover of projects with them.
Result - Once your application has been approved (this could take a couple of weeks), go ahead and enjoy your leave. Make the most of it, don't laze around. Prepare to come back recharged and refreshed. Do all that is needed for you and your family with the time that you get. Sometimes, you could be eligible for STD benefits, check the DLS emails for that. Hope this helps a ton of folks. Please let me know what questions you have in the comments, and I will add to this post.Pro - FMLA is job protected leaveCons - your stocks stop vesting while you're on FMLA. No salary, you might get some money off STD benefits [#fmla](https://www.teamblind.com/tag/fmla) [#amazon](https://www.teamblind.com/tag/amazon) [#amazonbenefits](https://www.teamblind.com/tag/amazonbenefits) |
