in china, life is like climbing a pyramid. everyone is trying to go upward to the top. and if you don't, you will fall.
but when you go abroad, you'll find most people are just happy with where they currently stay.
thus, LZ's mindset is actually a good fit for going abroad.
As for dreams and FLAG. just ask yourself what really makes you happy and what really motivates you to pursue all those hard-to-achieve goals?
some people really want FLAG because they like cool technology, they want money, reputation and a better career path. this is their motivation, to fulfil their desire. if you are completely fine with your way of life, and you don't have such desires, why bother to force yourself fit into others' blueprints? live as who you are
However, as an adult, no matter what you want to do and how you want to live your life, always plan ahead. you don't need to have an ambitious plan but at least you need a plan. you can't just go with the flow because this will make you keep doubting yourself. life is like a boat, and only if you have the feeling of "control your life" you will finally get to the destination. if you just chill and go with the flow, you'll be confused where you are heading to. look at those successful friends around you, they know exactly what they want and break down their long term goal into smaller steps, trying to fit every little step into their big plan. "plan ahead" is not just a positive sign for getting successful but also for growing mature.
to sum up, I strongly advise LZ to carefully examine what you really want because we can't go back. we will pay for every mistake we make. if you are 100% sure that you are happy with a mediocre life and won't even regret when finding yourself hard to make ends meet one day, then just let it go. however, if you are not so sure, i guess you know what you should do now...
ps: ZJU is a great school, LZ got nothing to be afraid of.
