申请master的SOP到底要不要具体写对某个professor的research感兴趣？

RT, 如果professor 不在录取委员会是不是就看不到，那么其他没有被提及的教授是不是就不会要你，还是这样写会让招生委员会觉得你是特意做过调查的，增加motivation, 增加match度？

The professor I mentioned in my SOP left. What can I do?

If it is an application to a university in the United States, it doesn't matter. The Statement of Purpose, if at all used, is used to gauge your research interests and what kind of projects you have and would be interested in. So mentioning a professor and his lab indirectly says that you'd be interested in working in so and so area, under someone who does similar work.

The Statement of Purpose is simply used to understand your interests better and it doesn't make or break your application. In most universities the admissions committee makes all the decisions and the professor(s) you mention in the statement of purpose will most likely never get to see your application.

The future of the lab is an entirely different question. A Masters program especially in engineering, is more like an extension to the bachelors and is all about taking advanced courses. Even if the professor and the lab existed, there is no guarantee that you would end up working under him in that lab. So there is little point in fretting about this situation.

If you're accepted to this university, you should make a call on accepting based on whether you still like the university and would love to take courses there because of the other professors.

If your end goal is a PhD in the same university and it entirely depended on the said Professor being there, then you should have second thoughts and could look for a better university. Even that is not a wise thing to do as there is no guarantee that the professor would have take you into his group. You could end up get a better advisor as well.

我写了，表示我仔细看过教授的研究方向了。。
我不知道这样对不对，和楼主一起等别人回答吧~

MS为什么要写明教授呢？我觉得PHD才要写的吧 MS能跟着教授做科研的太少了吧

不用寫教授
但可以寫該校的research area有你感興趣的
畢竟同個program不同學校強調的research area不同
寫research area比寫單一老師好而且有彈性

我觉得有好处(如你所说的那些，暂时没想到坏处，所以写了

我也觉得是phd才要写的，但是如果不写从哪里能体现match呢？
