in one workshop at the solar decathlon in D.C yesterday, i got to know the incentive rate of panels for individual house owners in D.C. i cannot remember all the numbers, but will try to list some.
for the first 2kw panels bought, you can get $3/watt rebate from government. for 2kw-5kw(maybe it's 5 -____-) it's like $1.5/watt. upmost you can get $30k. typically it means you've got to pay less than $10k for a ~8kw system which can produce more electricity than your consumption supposing you are normal -___-. for residential electricity, the price is $0.14/kwh; but you can sell your extra electricity for $0.33/kwh. generally the life span of solar panel is > 20 years, the standerized sunshine time in D.C is around 4.7 hours per day. then you can do the calculation. that's a great deal.
