I strongly SUPPORT the proposal for the following reasons:
1. The government should let the students who learned knowledge from U.S. universities stay in the country and let them keep making contributions to theU.S. Otherwise why would international students come here paying expensive tuitions to study? Without that incentive, U.S. higher education will lose attraction to international students. A great drop of international students will be seen soon if such is the case.
2. Diversity is very important for the U.S. and it's one of the most important factors that make U.S. a strong nation in the world. If we don't allow diversity and encourage talents from all over the globe, U.S. will have a hardship to grow and stay ahead.
. From 1point 3acres bbs3. Competition does exist, but is not a bad thing. We all know that good competition creates great progress, and also makes the whole society stays healthy and strong.

The new regulation will greatly help not only the international students to gain practical work experience after completing their education, but also significantly increase the number of prospective international students to come to study in the U.S.
Suppose U.S. is not supportive and welcoming for international students in the work market, why would they come all the way here, leaving family behind, paying expense tuition to get education here? They might as well get a good education and it will be easier to find a job in their home country. Thus, if U.S. is not supportive for letting international students to work here, there will be a sharp drop of interest for internationals to come study, and will thus greatly impact the universities, the colleges, the economy and the society.

Also, allowing internationals to contribute their talent here is undoubtedly beneficial for U.S. One of the most important factors that make U.S. the strongest country is its openness and embracement for diversity. It's diversity that propel growth and encourages innovation. U.S. will stop growing if the door is close and Americans refuse to embrace changes and diversity.

我用我老板口吻写的...
Comment: As a professor in UCLA materials science department, I feel that I have a few word to say here.
I have many excellent doctoral students and they are all international students. They are really versatile in scientific research and they all have no fewer than ten publications on best journals in materials science and engineering. I believe that they are competent in US job market and academic area and what they need is just some more training outside academic research so that they can show their talent in industries. This is what OPT is meant for, right?
I don't understand why so many Americans oppose this policy. All the American students in my group can easily get a job even before they graduate because of their citizenship. So if you are American engineer, do not worry about international students. If you already have citizenship however still cannot compete with international students, you may have to improve your own skills instead of driving true talented people away. You will never find a job if you are not competitive, anyway.

Dear Sir or Madam,
.google  и
Im a Ph.D. student studying at University of Washington, Seattle. Im writing to express my complete support for extending the STEM OPT extension by 24 months. I briefly listed out the benefits of this new regulation from the perspective of international students, U.S. employers, and U.S. society in the following:

First of all, this 24-month extension would give an immediate benefit on the international students who make up more than half of STEM advanced degrees earned at American colleges and universities, according to a study released on June 18, 2015. As we know that in order to continue working in U.S. beyond the OPT time period, the internationals need to get approved with a H-1B visa through the USCIS lottery which has a notoriously high failing rate of 51%. Without the 24-month OPT extension, more than half of international STEM students will be forced to leave the job occupations in U.S. This will not only hurt millions of international STEM students every year, but will likely have a great negative impact on the U.S. colleges and universities, because prospect international student enrollment will be hindered. If they knew that the country that they are going to earn a degree in is not supportive for their career development after graduation, why would they come to earn a degree here paying the expensive tuitions? ..

Secondly, without the 24-month extension, the U.S. employers would lose millions of well-educated, high-skilled international employees with STEM degrees. It would result in a complete waste of the employers hiring effort and expense, training resources, and most importantly, a great reduction on their talent pool. A huge impact on the overall company performance is likely to be seen, therefore result in a great reduction on their overall productivity and revenue.. From 1point 3acres bbs

Last but not the least, the U.S. society in general will benefit greatly from this new regulation. Diversity and equality are two of the most important factors that make U.S. a strong and beautiful nation today. With open arms to embrace the highly educated, top talent from all over the world, U.S. society will undoubtedly benefit greatly in all aspects including economy, science, technology, and developing even faster to reach a greater goal. It is the great talent that propels the advancement of technology and economy throughout human history. With more and more supportive regulations to encourage the top talent to contribute in U.S. society, U.S. will fly towards a brighter future with strong wings.

Thanks so much for your concern and time..

Sincerely,
Laurie Zhang
Graduate Research Assistant
University of Washington
