misnomer - Calling GTER a store front taisha is an egregious misnomer.

expatriate (expat) - Less than a decade ago, companies send expatriates to do business in China and they usually receive pay that's equal to or slightly higher than their pay would have been in the States. Expat became an extremely favorable type of employment for Chinese.
paternalistic - When I was in college, there were still paternalistic rules to keep boys out of girls' dorms.

greg (herd, flock)
gregarious - The more gregarious of us usually do not enjoy the rural life in the States. But those of us who enjoy our solitude find great pleasure in the vast wildness here.
aggregate - the EB1 case was judged on the aggregate of evidence for the petitioner's outstanding abilities.
congregation - The congregation gathered for the wedding.
egregious - One person's personal ideal may sounds egregious to another. However as long as it does not hurt anyone, we do not have to make him conform to the rest of society.
segregate - Private schools still practice gender segregation in college.

mellifluous - Reading a nice novel wile listening to mellifluous music on the sunny fall afternoon is a favorite pastime of mine.

prehend/prehens (seize)
prehensile - Human hands are prehensile, while our feet are not'
apprehend - The thief was apprehended within two hours. I was able to apprehend the new ideas pretty quickly. I am apprehensive about the coming court hearing.
comprehend - The comprehensive final will include all chapters we have covered during the semester. I was able to understand the main ideas in the book, but I was not able to comprehend its meaning in full.
reprehensible - The reprehensible criminal committed the reprehensible act against the child victim.

temper (moderate, keep within limits)
temperate, temperature
temper - to temper chocolate..; the judge must temper justice with mercy. I should learn to temper my crave for efficiency with attention to my family.
temperance - None of my family members grasped the meaning of temperance, we all eat too much, spend too much, and sleep at irregular hours.
intemperate - I am not an intemperate drinker but I sometimes overeat.

purge - the souls are purged at the purgatory before sent to heaven
expurgate (censor) - Douban now egregiously expurgate everything posted on their site.
purgative - Fiber has strong purgative powers, so don't take three days dosage all at once.
purgatory - I hate wasting time, so all the long wait from one bureaucracy to another in China seemed like purgatory to me.
