I am currently chair of the Ph.D. admissions committee for the School of ORIE. Professors get many requests for information regarding their research and generally our practice is not to respond directly since our usual practice does not require students to find a research advisor until after they have been admitted and been here about 18 months.  Admissions are handled centrally by a faculty committee which is concerned with applicants' overall promise; the committee also considers balance between research specialties.  We also find students' interests change and mature as they are in the program and often they specialize in something different from earlier interests.

We are in the middle of our admissions process, and you should hear from us sometime in the next 2 weeks.
