Thank you for your interest in our program. Many of our students come to us without "pure" CS backgrounds. As such, should you be admitted, you would be assigned whatever undergraduate "core" and advanced CS classes you are lacking as prerequisites for the graduate level courses, because our program is based on the assumption that you have a BS in CS. The list of these courses:
Core Computer Science Requirements (units) *CSC 210 Introduction to Computer Programming (3) *CSC 220 Data Structures (3) *CSC 230 Discrete Mathematical Structures for Computer Science (3)
*CSC 256 Machine Structures (3)
CSC 340 Programming Methodology (3) CSC 412 Advanced Software Lab (1) CSC 413 Software Development (3)
Advanced Computer Science Requirements (units)
CSC 415 Principles of Operating Systems (3) CSC 510 Analysis of Algorithms I (3) CSC 520 Theory of Computing (3) CSC 600 Programming Language Design (3)
You do not need to wait until you have completed the classes above to apply to our program. However, you may want to take some of those foundation classes while you were going through the admissions process, either at a community college or through SFSU’s Extension program “Open University” http://www.cel.sfsu.edu/.
You will need to take the general GRE test if you haven't done so within the past 3 years, as that is also required for admission. I hope you find this information useful. Let us know if you have any further questions.
