Good to hear that those NAACL submissions are going well. Unfortunately, the committee's decision is likely to be final. Let me be clear that I had a very positive impression of you from our call. However, several first-year PhD students at UT recently joined the NLP groups (more than is typical), so we unfortunately had very little bandwidth to admit new NLP-focused students this year and had to turn away a lot of great applicants such as yourself. Sorry that it had to turn out that way -- but based on the strength of your application, I'm pretty sure you'll have some other great choices for PhD programs!
