1.   STEM
The Supply ChainManagement(SCM)/Business Analytics(BA)/Quantitative Finance and Risk Analytics(QFRA)programs qualify as a STEM degree (science, technology, engineering or math).For more information on the STEM degree, see the U.S.


2.   Life in RPI
Housing: 研究生都是offccampus, 很多人住在 City station(属于高级公寓，有健身房，停车场， 走路不到10分钟可到学校，每月将近800刀租金，相比其他housing来说贵一些） 或者 Troy garden( 一栋一栋的小区一样的地方，距离学校20分钟步行路程，有免费校巴可直达学校，每月500刀左右租金，也有不少人选择住这里） 有些学生也会选择学校周围的houses或者小型的apartment，租金大概500左右。还有 Green island 也有学生住，这个我不是很了解，但看一些群里发的图片，房子也很不错。
一些租房网站：

Transportation: 坐公交用学生卡免费，但很多学生还是选择自己买车，去walmart去中超去各种饭店吃饭都方便很多。去纽约波士顿可以坐greyhound bus（便宜但没那么舒服）也可以坐train（稍贵但很舒服）。有校巴穿梭于各个住处与学校之间，可免费乘坐。

Helping center: 在Lally里，Sonja 会组织活动类似帮助国际学生了解美国文化以及帮助国际学生更快的适应美国生活。 想提升英语能力的同学，可以去学校的writing center和“tea and talk"， 随时可以帮助同学强化写作和口语能力。
总的来说, RPI是适合搞学术的地方，娱乐的东西没那么多。如果你想好好学习，绝对是个好地方，但同时学校也会组织各种社交活动。不用担心没有机会networking.

The program connects current Lally students with seasoned industryprofessionals (Lally/RPI alumni and other professionals with proven success)who can offer career guidance, provide advice to students on skillsdevelopment; share real-world perspectives on work challenges; and as well asoffer potential connections that will help lead Lally students toward achievingtheir goals. It’s a great opportunity for alumni and businessprofessionals to be a resource for giving back to our future leaders.

Students hold the responsibility for their participation in thisprogram. The experience of being mentored is rewarding and offers manybenefits. Students will enrich their personal and professional networks,overcome barriers, gain real world insight, and strengthen their effectivenessin communicating their ideas, thoughts and opinions. Having a mentor will help studentsto develop within a culture of support and engagement with professionals fromtheir field of study. Working with a mentor will ideally drive students’ self-awarenessand enhance their perspective and knowledge of the path they are planning totake in their career.

Field Experiences
学院会组织一些trip， 不同专业trip不同，比如QFRA会组织去纽约参加career fair, BA有组织短途trip, SCM有到附近APICS协会Networking. 也会有组织大家一起到Boston公司参观以及到NewYork的career fari等。

Comprehensive projects
很多课都会有很有用的project. 比如Advance Data Resource Management这门课，会有一个全班一起做的项目。用Tableau帮 J&J 做一个project. 认真做积极主动参与的话，能学到很多东西。还有一些课程要自己找公司做project. 比如供应链的课程帮助一个公司进行Quality Control或者做Process Analysis.
                                                                                                                                                
Career Fairs / Companies
有两次Career Fairs分别在9月和2月. 9月career fair公司多一些。 包括EY, Deloitte, IBM, P&G, Captical bank, Bank of America, EPIC, GEICO, LUTRON 等公司。不过不同公司每次招的专业也不同。 但这些都是招Business专业的。

Alumni Network:
RAN (Rensselaer Alumni Network) is an initiative started by David Gertler in 2000. It has over 800 alums associated with it from diverse backgrounds and geographies. The primary purpose of the network is to help each other with their career and professional development.The idea is to introduce the students to RAN and the benefits it offers such as a medium to network with the alumnae.

4.   Capstone Project ( BA & SCM )
The Capstone course provides students with an opportunity towork on real business supply chain opportunities in a student team over a 4-5months period. Masters in Supply Chain students work together as a consultingteam with a client and advisor in a business environment to develop solutionthat will be put to use by the client to achieve significant business benefits.Students teams develop their analysis and recommendations and complete theproject with the devilry of a final report and presentation to the clientsenior management.

It is a core class which turns other courses into hands-onexperiences and gives students valuable learning outcomes. For example, oncestudents have learned the course Advanced Quantitative Methods for Business,they can apply the knowledge such as rationalize inventory to Capstone Project.When students learned Competitive Advantage and Operations Strategy, they knowhow to do efficient operations and process analysis. All of the knowledge theylearned from other courses can be useful tools that used in Capstone Project.

Students can develop persuasive communication skills, oral andwritten.
Also, it help studentsto gain proficiency in analyzing supply chain data to
identify improvement opportunities and root causes and to gainproficiency in creating documentation for a supply chain opportunity assessmentproject. Most importantly, students will learn how to manage team, customer andproject to conduct an effective supply chain improvement project. This course gives students more competitive advantage when theygraduate and pursue career success because working experience is important forcompanies to evaluate students’ ability.

Capstone Project是我个人最喜欢的一门课程，分小组然后一起帮公司解决问题。我的专业是供应链，我们专业会on site工作，会每周跟公司meeting. 公司就在albany附近。可以去体验公司文化，锻炼工作能力以及 Presentation 的能力。很不错。如果做的好的话，还有Intern和Full-time opportunities. 不过也要特别出色才行。

5.   Benefit of Business degree at a polytechnicInstitute
How does a businessdegree from a school with “polytechnic” in the name benefit you? Fair question!Business and technology constantly collide; in today’s world, where the newesttrends, data and devices are available at any given moment, the most effectivepeople in business are those who can thrive within the pandemonium ofoversaturation and hone in on what is actually important for success.

When you think of Fortune 100 companies like Berkshire Hathaway, Apple, J.P.Morgan, Boeing, Johnson & Johnson or IBM, you know that having a backgroundis business is imperative; they set the standards for business practices. But,consider how each company stays ahead of the competition – through technology.Scientific and engineering innovations fuel not only these billion-dollarcompanies but they are the catalyst for hundreds of new start-ups each year.

So, how comfortable are you, really, where management meets technology? Can youlook at an engineering project and see where the limits can be pushed tomaximize potential or are you only capable of managing the results? Do you knowhow to use new and upcoming technology for modeling, projecting, or generalcompany health or will you be as knowledgeable as those you are managing?

These are questions you have to ask yourself and the answer is different foreveryone based on their unique interests and their intended career path. If yousee yourself more in the former category, there’s no better place to get yourbusiness degree than at a “tech” school.

6.   On-campus work opportunities
TA/RA : 有很多做Teaching Assistant的。 TA是免学费并且给1万刀的工资的。所以在Math或者CS方面比较厉害的同学一定要记得申请。
Students Ambassador： 开学前一般会发这个工作邀请，开学面试通过后可以做，每个专业要一个人，大家每个人都可以试试，工资每小时17刀，每周最多工作10小时。

7.  Program Duration可以选择读一年或者一年半。 几种选择：
1. 可以第一学期drop一节课 留到第三学期上。这样的话第一学期读四门课， 第二学期读五门课，第三学期读一门课，第三学期算part-time.
2. 可以第二学期drop一节课 留到第三学期上。这样的话第二学期读四门课， 第一学期读五门课，第三学期读一门课，第三学期算part-time.
如果第一，二学期就可以找到工作的话，当然直接毕业最好。如果想等到暑期实习，然后第三学期有更多的时间找工作的话。就读一年半。现在可以在暑期实习之后第三学期回学校读part-time（刚刚改的政策，以前暑期实习，第三学期要读full-time)
