Master'sPositions are now available in the Department of Physics at University ofMinnesota-Duluth. The studentships are fully funded for 2 years that include 9months' teaching assistantships or research assistantships, summer researchfellowships and health insurance supports.
Therelevant research topics are: 1)High-Energy Particle Astrophysics 2)Computational Particle Physics 3)Physical Limnology and Oceanography 4)Theoretical Cosmology 5)Foundations of Quantum Mechanics 6)Experimental Condensed-Matter Physics 7)Atomic absorption and emission in trace elements 8)Environmental Optics
Theprerequisite for admission is a four-year undergraduate degree in physics orits equivalent. Students with degrees in Mathematics, Nuclear Engineering,Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and any other fields withsignificant physics and mathematics background and a keen interest in furtherphysics training are routinely considered. In making admissions decisions,several measures are taken into account. Among these measures are undergraduategrade point average (the Graduate School prefers an undergraduate grade pointaverage of 3.0 on a 4 point scale), undergraduate course selections, and performanceon Graduate Record Exams when available. While the GRE general and subjectresults are not required, their submission is encouraged for students seekingfinancial support. Forinternational students, performance on the TOEFL exam is also considered. TheGraduate School sets minimum TOEFL scores for admission: Internet-based iBT: 79overall with minimum scores of 21 and 19 in the writing and reading sectionsrespectively.
