Yelp Search Team Data Mining Engineer v.s. Amazon

onsite两周了，今天刚拿到offer，在search team SF，下面是一段team的介绍。

Team Mission: We are responsible for the full yelp search experience from guiding a user's intent with autocomplete to showing high quality search results that drive user engagement. We own the models that power our query understanding and search ranking as well as the infrastructure that enables development and scalability.


Projects: We leveraged our rich data on user behavior to discover patterns in how users iteratively "refine" (more precisely specify) their intent for service-related queries like movers and plumbers. To make these successful query patterns more accessible and to encourage wider engagement with them, the search team added the capability to support these refinement behaviors on the backend, including new machine-learned models to ensure excellent relevance for their search results. This project also tied in with frontend work resulting in entirely new UI elements to surface these refinement suggestions to users and to ensure users understand what's going on behind the scenes.

Redshift, Cassandra, NLP tools, mrjob (MapReduce), Kafka, Python

说实话，我对做machine learning／data engineering的东西会比general backend会感兴趣（因为接触的比较多吧）技术栈看上去挺吸引人。现在手上还有amazon，明天deadline，package如果在湾区的话第一年是差不多的，但是amazon不知道确定的位置和组是一大吐槽点。

所以请大家看看这两家如何选～（楼主还是想工作一两年跳槽的，今年牛逼公司都不理俺）。主要从这三个角度：
1. 公司的发展前景和reputatio
2. 能学到的技术和软技能方面的提升
3. 公司的culture

楼主近几年不打算回国。

Amazon 最大的问题就是这个不确定，你要是到云服务组，听起来很帅是吧，insfra诶，然后其实是改tiny feature，然后每天on call。青春就在细枝末节中耗费了。
（没错，我是一个亚麻黑）。
yelp股票给的中规中矩，base稍微有一点点少。讲道理你从阿玛棕跳和你从yelp跳其实没差..........
而且就冲着你这一大段yelp的描述来看，你也肯定是想去yelp。

我现在在 AWS 实习， 其实你说的挺对的， AWS 蛮多operation的组，都是已经蛮稳定的，只有小feature可以改。另外 oncall 是组里 轮流每人一周，组大的话 可能两个月轮到一周，不是每天，这个请别乱说。另外去 F 和 G 也不见得就有 big feature轮到new grad去加。

因为被告知是confidential的，就不透露具体的啦，不过偷偷告诉你，看地理最近的data mining的面经和那份整理就可以～

楼主的team介绍的好详细。。。我这边收到邮件只有个笼统的介绍， 都不知道是要干嘛的。。技术栈也不知道= =
