cornell systems engineering

我2018年入学这个meng项目，感觉录得中国人越来越多，已经成长为Cornell最大的master项目了（还有distance learning）。但是地里的相关信息一直很少，让我来介绍一下吧！
首先我觉得这个项目对于理工科学生门槛真的很低，大家进来都是一脸懵逼，我朋友读商科的莫名其妙就被录了，然后她家人非要叫她来上。但是对我这么一个渣渣来说，Cornell架了一座梯子能让我直接去ivy league也真的很感动了。
关于课程，他们宣传最厉害的就是meng project，作为未来求职的重要加分点。但是对不起，我们se很水，所以项目也很水。除非你自己本来有很强的其他专业背景，否则别的专业的项目老师也不会要你，安安心心在se的水项目混个毕业，多上点自己喜欢的课吧。我就是刚进校想干大事，跟了一个特别特别坑的se项目，做了一个月就drop了，那个月简直生不如死。最热门的orie项目并不对其他专业开放，人家是真的帮企业做data analytics哦。
Cornell最好的一点就是选课自由，只要你有力气，学的越多学费越划算。而且因为我们项目水，advisor也不怎么管，我们隔壁orie的选个文科课都要跟老师解释为什么要选而不上那些地狱难度的orie课，但是我就上了宗教课音乐课这些，真的非常赞了。

I took my undergrad in engineering in China so there may not be much for you to refer to.
The MEng at Cornell is comparatively new, where I could not email any current student when I was applying! Things have been improving. We have some required courses, super boring ones only for the goal of graduating. However, to fulfill the requirements for graduating, you could choose almost all classes from engineering school and business school. Since the tuition is paid by semester, you can choose as many courses as possible. The more you choose, the more cost effective your tuition would be. However, if you plan to graduate in one year, you may not have enough time to explore the interesting classes at Cornell, wine, Buddhism, museum design, etc.
. 1point 3acres I came to Cornell without much intention. At first, I thought I need to make good use of the chance to practice my knowledge in engineering. After coming here, such easy access to humanity disciplines made me change my mind. Maybe I would change to another direction to my loved art and history. As a result, I did not look for interns in engineering.
A lot of students coming to SE have the goal of changing major. However, we really do not have much chance to meet and know each other.
Overall, Cornell is a great place for you to explore yourself. If you have the very clear goal of finding a job, I think Cornell is not that cost-effective. Maybe Purdue, Penn State and UCLA would be a better choice.

Your honest response is so welcomed. I can’t say i am directly focussed on one career or job in the future. I am drawn to Systems Engineering because I have a background in Transportation, Energy, Conservation, Agriculture, and Politics. Due to my broad background and experience, i have come to conclude that methodology is what Really excites me about so many issues.

Systems Engineering is not that competitive as other programs at Cornell. So take your time and relax! Maybe have a look at class roster. Do not wait until the last minute to think about your course schedule. I highly recommend classes held by Johnson school,  which I think must be very helpful for you.

虽然我是隔壁IS的 但是还是想稍微提一点小意见 根据我的了解System Eng在康村是个蛮新的部门 最近正在快速扩张 因此可能和其他专业比要稍微好录一点 但楼主说门槛“真的很低”不是很严谨。。。一方面对康村研究生院整体留下一个偏negative的评价 另一方面可能也会误导后来人 毕竟每个项目新开的时候都是这样的 难免以后不会有水涨船高的时候
建议做学术 哪怕是一个meng也要端正态度 希望水一下混一下当然也是人各有志 但毕竟康村工院提供了一个蛮好的环境 我们还是要尽力维持它的良性发展/循环。。。
另外听说System Eng的PhD也在扩招 有需要的同学感觉可以尝试下

Cornell本来就不是一个适合陆本待的地方我只能说 放低心态

朋友你觉得engineering是学啥？不都是学tech。cornell tech校区的课要跟ithaca分开，除非你每周乐意跑nyc

延期才能找intern呀。我这届暑期实习的同学都回国了，感觉回国找实习特别容易。不知道那些印度同学都在哪实习。

事在人为。我看到有engineering management转到business school做phd的，我们商学院一年也招不来几个博士，所以这个难度可能比你转cs还难吧。
