大家可以试着先翻译看看: 走这条单行道, 在第一个红绿灯时左转, 那里就是Hemphill Ave. 是一条双线道. 往下走, 你会在你的左边看到一个加油站, 继续走50 码, 直到看到一个三叉路口, 右转, 经过二个stop sign. 你就会碰到Wal Mart. 邮局就在Wal Mart 的对面. 而杨先生的家呢? 邮局后面就是啦. 1. Take the one-way street. 走这条单行道.
2. You will stay on the street for a while until you hit the first traffic light./stop light/stop sign etc

6. You will see a BP gas station on your left.

Remember to renew your insurance.
保险到期了要记得自己去续约, (续约在英文里叫renew) 有些保险公司会忘了寄通知单给你, 要记得自己去renew. 在美国的医疗费是很惊人的,不要拿自己的生命和健康作赌注
另外, 保险金叫premium. 由于premium 这个字也可以当作最好的意思, 所以在超市可以看到许多叫premium 的产品, 如orange juice, pizza 等.所以不要把这二个意思弄混了. 当在讲到保险时, 说到premium 都是指保险金的意思.

Down payment and monthly payment/installment.
一般买东西付钱的方式有二种, 一种是付清, 另一种是分期付款.分期付款又分为头期款(Down payment) 和以后每个月要缴的钱.一般买大一点的东西如车子或是保险, 上都会列出不同付款方式所应缴的金额.有些促销广告就会打出No down payment.也就是不用付头期的意思. 但是如果是分期付款, 通常都还要再交额外的finance charge (相当于利息) 划不划算? 自己算看看.

Pay your tag fee before your birthday.
Tag fee 就是汽车的牌照税, 一年缴一次, 一般约在$200-400 之间.由于各州法律不同, 所以嬓交的方式和金额也不太相同. 但一般都是在生日之前必须预缴下一年度的tagfee, 不然就会被罚10% 的罚金.

Get your emission test for your car every odd year.
各州法律不同, 但应是大同小异, Georgia 的法律规定, 车子每二年要作一次emission test, 收费是公定价$25.

在美国开车有一点和台湾很不同, 就是在由红灯变绿灯时, 如果有左转灯的话, 它是会先变成左转灯的,所以是由左转车先走. (在台湾是直行灯亮完之后才换左转灯) 所以也没有什么绿灯待转这回事.请勿耍宝. (像我刚到美国时一样) 但是如果没有左转灯的话, 则还是一样由直行车走完之后才换左转车.

抄近路take a shortcut, 或是cut corners (有偷工减料的意思，含贬义).
绕远路take a detour

She is a police officer.（以前警察都穿那种有铜扣(copper) 的大衣, 所以警察就被昵称为copper. 后来日子久了就变成了cop.原来有一点歧视的味道，不过日子久了, 连警察们自己都互称是cop,就变成是一个中性了）

I was pulled over by the State Patrol. 我被公路巡警给拦下来.
cop警察总称,
detective 侦探，属于破案的，比patrol的police officer级别要高
State trooper = state police
State patrol 州立(state)警察队通常都在州际公路(Interstate) 上抓超速的人
county sheriff每一个郡(county, 大小=县)自己的警察，也可以称警长
deputy sheriff  副警长
City Police每个城市(city)都有，如NYPD
