Thank you again for your application to our graduate program in computer science at UC Riverside. I am writing to you to let you know that we have completed our first round of Ph.D. offers and are working on our second; our M.S. applications are currently being reviewed and we will let the M.S. applicants know of our decision around the same time as the second-round of Ph.D. applications. I hope that these offers will be sent out within the next two weeks.
This year we received an unprecedented amount of applications, in fact, the highest that this department has ever seen, and it has made things quite challenging. We also had a new automated e-mail program that was sending out notices to our applicants with information that may not have been intended (like that one e-mail from CEE to all of our students; that is not even our program!) which added to applicant confusion. Throughout this process, I want to thank you for your patience and I hope that you will receive your decision soon. (THIS e-mail is not automated!)
With that being said, please keep in mind that the April 15 deadline is an unofficial deadline where applicants with funding need to reply to the department with a response so that they can move on to another offer if you decline. Many universities submit offers after this deadline, and many applicants change their minds after this point also (and decline an already accepted offer to accept someplace else, etc.). This is all perfectly fine and normal. If you have accepted another offer and do not wish to receive one from UCR, please let me know.
