The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declared a decisive victory for LGBT rights in a landmark federal law that bans workplace discrimination and protects gay, lesbian, and transgender workers. The 6-3 ruling is the most important moment for LGBT rights in the United States since the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide in 2015. In the new ruling, the justices decided that gay and transgender people are protected by Chapter 7 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which bars employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin and religion. Workplace bias against gay and transgender workers is still legal in most of the United States, and 28 states lack comprehensive employment discrimination measures. source
