In a speech at a Whirlpool manufacturing plant in Ohio on Thursday, Trump announced that he had signed an announcement to reimpose a 10% tariff on imported aluminum products from Canada, which was cancelled more than a year ago. And said that Canada puts Alcoa's workers at a disadvantage. Canada also responded quickly and strongly on Friday: it will impose tariffs on $2.7 billion worth of US goods. Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said that tariffs will hurt American consumers who have suffered economic damage from the epidemic. The Canadian aluminum industry will not pose a threat to the national security of the U.S.. Such re-imposition of tariffs is unnecessary, unreasonable, and completely unacceptable. Canada will resolve the matter with balanced and fully reciprocal measures. It will not escalate, but it will not back down.  source
